- No, there are a variety of coffee Beans. Arabica and Robusta are the two major types of commercial coffee. Arabica Coffee is considered superior.
You can start by choosing the percentage of Arabica (and/or) Robusta and chicory (if needed) you want, in your coffee. Then choose your roasting level (Dark, Medium-Dark, Medium). There are different grinding levels depending on the brewing method (To select your appropriate grind refer to the brewing guide). Once all three options are selected, choose the quantity and proceed to buy.
Though roasted and ground coffee has a shelf life of one year, the coffee tastes amazing within one month from the date of roasting.
Many of the flavor and aroma compounds that make coffee delicious are fragile and begin to break down within weeks of roasting. Most of the commercial coffee available in the market has been roasted weeks, if not months ago, in bulk roasting facilities, before going through a chain of intermediaries before reaching the customer. By the time you open the bag the coffee is stale.
Once coffee beans are ground, they begin to lose their flavour relatively faster because of larger surface area that will be reacting with oxygen and moisture. Any amount of vacuum sealing or freezing will not prevent this. So, if you can manage to grind the beans at home, buy your coffee as roasted beans. Then when you want a fresh cup, you grind just the amount you need according to the correct grade (fine or coarse) depending on whether you are having an espresso or latte. If you have never done this, your taste buds are in for a big surprise!
Roasted coffee rapidly loses its flavour and aroma. Airtight packaging and storing in airtight containers can preserve the qualities of the coffee for a longer period of time.
Do not store roasted coffee in the fridge. Storing in airtight containers for a maximum of one month is the best way to enjoy the goodness.
The important difference is that instant coffee has already been brewed and dehydrated, and ground coffee hasn’t been brewed — it’s just ground up coffee beans.Since ground coffee is brewed when needed, it tastes better.
- It varies according to the brewing method. You can refer to the chart in our Brewing guides.

While many artisan roasters offer custom roasted coffee, their reliance on older roaster technology requires them to roast between 10 and 100 pounds of green coffee at a time. Unless your order is for exactly the amount their roaster holds, they must throw the extra coffee away or sell it to someone else. Rather than increase prices to pay for discarded coffee or sell coffee ordered by one customer to another, La Cuppa guarantees that you get all the coffee you order, roasted to the level you choose and shipped fresh…all at the best possible price.
